Digital marketing involves the marketing of products or services using digital technologies and platforms such as mobile phones, tablets, content marketing, video marketing, online marketing, social media marketing, etc. Simply put, digital marketing involves anything that has to do with the promotion of products or brands through online digital space. Fundamentally, it is used where marketing meets internet technology and other forms of new media.

The use of digital technologies in marketing was traced back to the 1990s. The development began to make an impact on the way businesses and brands used technology for marketing purposes. As the years go by, digital platforms are becoming more popular and widely used. Marketing and promotion of brands, products, or services through digital media is proven to be the fastest and reliable mode of marketing to target mass audience.

Most individuals are using digital services these days rather than making physical outings to factories and marketing outlets, forcing such trades to reinvent themselves and go from offline to online.

The various digital channels through which online marketers promote their products for strong digital presence:

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization is a way of attracting quality traffic of your website organically and obtaining high ranking in various search engines such as Google. It involves optimizing the content of a website, link building, keyword research, etc. to rank high on the Search Engine Results Page. This will expose promoted products and services to more audience organically when the keywords or related words are being searched.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

Search Engine Marketing is very similar to SEO because it also depends on the search engines. The main difference that exists between them is that SEM is a paid medium of advertising the website on search engine result pages. It also requires keyword study as the words and phrases used in the advertisement and site, and these need to be scrutinized wisely to reflect the marketplace and current search engine rubrics.

Social Media Marketing (SMM)

Social Media Marketing involves content creation and sharing on social media to achieve a clear goal. A perfectly done social media marketing using platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn can ensure success in business. Those platforms are all examples of social networks which can be used for marketing. A good social media marketing must ensure presence at social media platforms, creating quality content, studying and responding to feedback and content optimization. It reflects that communication can be a lot more targeted and personalized than other forms of marketing, as companies get the chance to receive feedback from customers daily.

Email Marketing

Email Marketing is a way of advertising products and services to a set of targeted audience through email. It is the process of communicating with your potential clients through email. It is arguably the most effective technique to keep your client base updated regarding your offers. Modern email marketing is just beginning to make headway so that it can be linked to a database in order to personalize it so that individual groups of customers can be sent mail based on many criteria such as purchases, location, pick-up delivery, interests and so many other factors.

Content Marketing

Content Marketing entails various strategies and practices used to market the product or service through quality content to engage the customer and generate trust. It involves providing the right information, meaningful insights, perspectives, and best practices that are valuable to targeted customers. This information can be provided through blog posts, info-graphics, eBooks, or videos.

Affiliate marketing

This involves recommending a company’s product or services to the customer or redirecting them to the seller. The external website used in marketing is entitled to a percentage or commission from the retailers for the traffic or conversion from the reference on the third-party website.
